Our second day in Sri Lanka, after visiting a Buddha temple, a railway museum, and a view point, we sat down for our lunch in a traditional restaurant. There the food was very different in taste, and they served food in an organic sieve with lotus leaf over it. We enjoyed banana flower, pumpkin curry, mutton curry, fish curry, pork curry, and chicken fry with rice. On the way we enjoyed Sri Lankan King Coconuts and stopped by a famous elephant orphanage at Pinnawala. While we reached at Pinnawala elephant orphanage, the elephants were set free for bath in the river. We had our lunch by the river watching the elephants bath. That lunch was not so special, but the sight of elephants bathing freely in the river was mesmerizing. Kandy is a small hill station with rich cultural history. If you are visiting Kandy, please do not miss out the Tooth Relic Temple of Kandy (which is also famous as the Kandy Temple), Royal Botanical Garden, the Kandy Lake, the Ceylon Tea Museum, National Railway Museum, and of course the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. After visiting some of these interesting places, we decided to have our lunch from a small yet traditional restaurant. There the food was too good and satisfying. We did not get a chance to cover the making of traditional Sri Lankan cuisines in Kandy, but we enjoyed the buffet system of serving Sri Lankan food in that small restaurant. Taste of Sri Lankan curries are different. They have this unique flavor and aroma of Sri Lankan spices. Well, they are spicy, especially when it comes to non-vegetarian delicacies - at least what we had tried in this restaurant were spicy. Though spicy, they were all delicious. I am so sorry about one thing - I forgot to note down the location, price, or even the restaurant name here. Sorry about that.
